He didn't know what to think. Was he dreaming again? Had he really turned down a fight; walked away before he got hurt? Fox couldn't wrap his mind around the whole thing. Even as he stared down at the large blue hand wrapped around his smaller wrist, even as he clutched to the old leather jacket in his other arm, even as he felt the warmth coming from said hand, he still though that the man pulling him along wasn't the man he just spent the night with. This had to be someone else, maybe an Aparoid. Yes, that's who this was, not the man from years ago.

The Aparoid took Fox back to his apartment building and up to the top floor where his loft was. He stood there, motionless as the other fumbled with his keys, then unlocked his door, taking him inside. He took his keys too, Fox concluded. This Aparoid killed him, took his keys, his boy, that voice... He stool them, and now he was using them against him. He was going to bring him somewhere where no one would hear him scream, then toss him into space where no one would find him. But as the enemy turned on the lights, Fox couldn't will himself to move and fight for his life. Had his body really just given up on him?

Fox stared at the ground as he fought inside himself, his body trembling on the outside. He hadn't noticed the Aparoid released him until he came back with a blanket and draped it around him, pulling the edges closed around him in the front. He moved back with a start, his eyes finally moving up to look into those crystal blue eyes that used to belong to his friend; the man he could trust, the man that died all those years ago.

"Sorry," the monster said in that voice, "Didn't mean ta scare ya." He just stood there for a moment, but then shifted his eyes to the ground and turned away. This was his chance! His back was to him! Why couldn't he move and take it?!

Fox watched as the other moved to the window and put a hand on it, looking out at the night sky. It was silent in the room, only sound being Fox's heart thudding in his ears. He gripped the blanket around him like he had the jacket, watching the imposter.

"How long has it been since I said your name?" he finally asked.

Fox was taken aback by that. His wide eyes blinked a few times as he processed the question, "M-my name?" he asked, receiving a nod from the firm by the window, "Uh... t-two years." he finally answered.

"Two years?" the Aparoid balled its hand into a fist against the window, "Has it really been that long? God... Tch, with the way I've been treatin' you, don't think I deserve ta say yo name." Fox could see his bitter smile in the reflection of the window.

It was quiet again for a long while. Finally, Fox frowned, squaring his shoulders as he tried to will himself to fight, "Who are you?" he asked, narrowing his eyes, "You can't be... you can't be him. He wouldn't act this way!" The firm didn't say anything. "Answer me!" Fox demanded, "Are you an Aparoid? Did Pigma send you?!"

"Tch," Another bitter smile, "So I've been an ass for so long that now you think I'm some kinda monster?" He put a hand to his forehead and rubbed it, "Well shit..."

Fox glared now, finally getting his feet to move. He dropped the blanket and rushed at him, but the other saw him coming. He spun around and caught him by the wrists, turning him around to crash him against the glass. Fox struggled, growling as he bared his fangs at the other, "Unhand me!" he shouted, "You're my not friend! You can't be him! He died two years ago!" The Aparoid didn't say anything. Instead, he just watched Fox struggle against him until he tired himself out. By this time, he was in tears. He wasn't sure if they were burning in anger or in longing for the one that was his. Every now and then, he'd give half hearted attempts at getting his bruising wrists out from the other's hold, "Lemme go..." he whimpered now, finally breaking from all the crap he had been through over the past two years, "Lemme go..." Fox leaned back against the glass, giving up as he closed his eyes.

"Fox,"

Fox's eyes perked up, his eyes widening. He felt his heart stop at the sound of that accent twisting and curling to form his name. Nobody said his name like that. Nobody but...

Fox looked up at the other, his breath quickening in a way he hadn't noticed, "Wh-what'd you say?" he asked quietly.

"Fox," the firm said again. He looked so upset now, and was frowning too.

This couldn't be happening. Even if someone took his accent, it wouldn't be the same. It wouldn't make the fur on the back of his neck rise, it wouldn't make his heart tumble, it wouldn't stop his lungs from working. It was only something he could do. The man from his past... the friend he loved like the brother he never had... That couldn't only mean that...

"F-Falco?" Fox spoke in a quiet voice, almost afraid to say the name in fear that it wouldn't really be him.

Falco smiled, a new light being born into his eyes from hearing his name beside like that. Fox always said it different than everyone else. He was the only person he'd let say his first and last name whenever he wanted. "Say my last name." he said, almost excitedly, like a kid with a new toy.

"L-Lombardi..." Fox fumbled, almost like he was uncertain. Still, it hit the cord inside the avian that lightened the load of the world on his shoulders.

Falco closed his eyes a moment, replaying it in his head. Who knew something as simple as saying someone's name would be enough to heal wounds you never knew existed?

"Ok," the older male started when he recovered, "I know this would be so quire by any other man's standards, but I think two years of darkness calls for this." Fox opened his mouth to ask what he was talking about but his words caught in his throat when he was suddenly picked up by two arms around his waist then lifted off the ground only to be spun around in circles. He couldn't help but gasp and grab onto the other's shoulders like a frightened cat and tense, but soon he relaxed and... smiled. He smiled so wide, until it hurt his cheeks. He allowed himself to return the other's embrace by wrapping his arms around his neck, loose at first, then tighter when the realization kicked in. He bowed his head and closed his eyes, his nose picking up on the tropical and spicy scent no one could copy.

"Falco," he said in a tone that made the other stop and set him down again, stepping back. Fox nibbled on his lower lip, something Falco picked up as an old nervous habit he hadn't seen him do in forever, "I... I'm not dreaming, am I?" he asked, glancing up at him.

Falco grinned, "Well I guess we'll have ta decide with a challenge." he stepped back and held up his hands, pausing for the dramatic effect, something that was so Falco, "Galaga."

Fox's ears perked up as his eyes widened, "Galaga? I haven't played that in years."

That cocky grin the younger one remembered so well suddenly appeared on the other's face; the smile he missed, "What, you scared I'm gonna beat chyo ass? Cause I will." he challenged.

Fox blinked a few times but then returned his cocky grin with one of his own, his tail swishing happily behind him, "You're so on."

As Falco as expected, they tied each other, though he still put up a good argument that he was a much better pilot than the other. It had to be close to five in the morning now as the avian put a hand to his mouth to muffle a yawn. He turned off the TV, "Yo Fox, wanna-...?" he started, loving to say his name, as he looked over where his friend was sitting, only to find him slumped against the armrest on the other side of the sofa, already fast asleep. Falco smiled. The young one was always the first to crash after a long night.

So he stood, taking the other onto his back like he had before, only this time, there was no guilt chaining him to the other, only a tight ribbon as strong as their bond. He put the other into his bed and covered him up after letting him do his little curling-up thing. He turned to leave but paused at the door. He glanced back at him, but instead of seeing a fox who looked twice his real age, he saw a warm smile on a very beautiful face. It made he himself smile before turning and walking out of the room, closing the door behind him.
